In recent years the Gold Coast, a vibrant, thriving community has fostered growth in it’s cultural industry. This is evident in the packed schedule of events heading to its sunny shores in the near future. Whether you’re passionate about music, film, art, culture or your simply in need of a relaxing weekend soaking up the best the coast has to offer, the year ahead is filled with exciting events to suit all interests.

The year kicks off with the Burleigh Pro on February 8th where some of the best surfers in the world compete, if surfing is your passion, or you want to see a display of world-class talent, this is an event not to be missed. Running alongside the Burleigh Pro is the Bleach Festival. Encompassing the southern end of the Gold Coast the festival celebrates art, music and surf, three words synonymous with the Golden Coast. Running from 11th to the 26th of February the Bleach festival is showcases of local talent that you can’t afford to miss.

On the 19th of February, Circle on Cavill in Surfers Paradise will screen Tropfest. The world’s largest short film festival Tropfest is an incredibly entertaining event with short films on display ranging from the disturbing to the hilarious. Shown on the mega screen, the festival is a great night out under the stars watching some of the best emerging talent in cinema. In April the Gold Coast Film festival is another essential for cinema lovers. Showcasing several films shot in Queensland the festival is a 10-day celebration of both local and international films.

If music is what you seek the Gold Coast provides the perfect setting. The Broadwater Parklands hosts the family friendly Gold Coast Arts Festival in March with numerous events occurring throughout the month. In May trendy Broadbeach transforms with the annual Blues festival. Sit in one of the numerous cafes or bars and soak up the atmosphere and live music. The festival is one of the best events the coast has to offer and the atmosphere is truly unique. In June the Surfers Paradise Festival returns after a hugely successful inaugural year. Surfers Paradise becomes a cultural hub with market stalls, art projects and a huge stage on the beach with terrific live music every day.

With more music, art and festivals than ever before, 2012 is set to be a huge year for the Gold Coast.
