Super Marmaduke Halloween Costume

Halloween is fast approaching. It is the time where people of all ages plan and prepare their creepiest costume for a scare. Those with a pet dog at home might find it difficult to come up with a concept that includes their pet. Well, worry not since you can make use of the Winslow family and Marmaduke for a unified and legendary costume.

Pet lovers definitely know who Marmaduke is. He is a great Dane who lives with the Winslow family and exhibits a typical characteristic among other dogs. He is actually a newspaper comic strip drawn by Brad Anderson since 1954 up to the present with the help of Phil Leeming and later by Dorothy Leeming. Anderson received the National Cartoonists Society Newspaper Panel Cartoon Award for the comic strip in 1978. A motion picture adaptation of Marmaduke was released June 4, 2010 where the Winslow family and their computer animated dog moved from Kansas to California.

To make your dog like that of Marmaduke, be sure to have a red neck rubber tie on him. If your dog has a different color as with Marmaduke (brown), you can have him dyed in a dog parlor if your budget permits. If you have a strict budget, you can cover him in a cape and accessorize him. You can actually customized a design for your dog.

If you want your dog to be a super dog Marmaduke, you can have him a red cape and print out the word at the back “Super Marmaduke” for him to be identified as a new generation wonder dog. To be more creative and let your dog stand out this Halloween, you can cut out curtains or blankets that are old and not in use (Preferably a red one for you to make a small cape like that of superman; if none, any color would do).

First, draw on a piece of paper your desired design for the cape then measure the length of your dog. After measuring, trace on the old cloth (curtain or blanket) your cape design. Be sure that the size is appropriate for your dog. Too lengthy cape might swallow him up thus preventing him to walk. Cut the design with an additional inch on its boarder so to provide an adjustment. Be sure to have a tie (the length is in line with the circumference of your dog’s neck) connected to the cape so that you can secure the cape around your dog’s neck.

Sew the boarder to make it neat. If you have extra cloth with different color from the cape, you can cut out letters from it like “SM” for Super Marmaduke or the whole word itself. You can sew it on the back of the cape. You can put glitters or sequence to add glam to your dog’s Marmaduke costume.

As for you the owner, you can wear Dottie Winslow’s look if you are a girl or Phil Winslow’s look if you are a boy to complement that of your dog’s costume. Now, you’re ready to hit the road with your dog for a trick or treat!
